RECOGNIZE HEADSHIP (1)

TOPIC: RECOGNIZE HEADSHIP (1)
TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 2:12-23

Men of experience play important roles in our lives, they are like guardian angels and if care is not taking can turn to behave like a devil with a mission to steal, kill and destroy one’s vision. Any man place over or ahead of you must always be respected and honoured whether present or absent, for he who knows the way can actually make you to miss your destination. The problem in our world today is, people don’t respect and appreciate the elders and people that God actually placed over them to help shape their lives. I don’t want to have anything doing with him/her again, he is this and that; the point is, such a man is actually cursing his future. God respects hierarchy and the ways to follow are littered on the pages of the Scriptures.

David was made king in Judah and Abner was captain of Saul’s hosts, Abner took Ishbosheth and made him king over Israel; Abner knew that God had anointed David, therefore, what he did in anointing Ishbosheth was an act of defiance against God Himself. Abner opposed God’s king. He wanted his own king, a king he could control, so he crowned Saul’s son, Ishbosheth, in Mahanaim. At Gibeon, there was an adversarial battle between two kings, David and Ishbosheth. The servants of David and that of Ishbosheth went against each other but David’s servants gained upper hand over Ishbosheth. Abner the captain of the host ran away and was pursued by Asahel, the youngest son of the Zeruiah and David’s cousin.

Joab, Abishai and Asahel were mighty men of valour and principal commanders of David's forces, they were all from the same family, men of war but on this day fought needless battle. Abner had been captain of the entire Israel comprises of Israel and Judah even before Asahel was born, but on this day, Asahel pursued Abner so as to kill him. Abner in age, status and experience cannot be compared with Asahel, even though Asahel has won many battles with David. Abner equally knew Asahel as Joab’s brother, the captain of David’s hosts and he begged Asahel to stop pursuing him, but he would not listen. Abner did not turn back before he struck Asahel to death, he did not even use the edge of his spear to kill him, he only used the butt (blunt head) of his spear while Asahel was still behind him.

Are you the type that criticise your head/leader? Watch it! Do you talk to your elderly ones anyhow and you think you are educated more than them? Never put a stumbling block on your future. You think your master who taught you that skill is a fool, a cheat, anything; his rod is not in your hands. Do you still have relationship with your leader, no matter who that person is? The best you can do if you do not like his leadership style is to leave quietly. You may have anointing, you don’t have to pull your master down and destroy him; his anger alone is enough to destroy your anointing. Remember, Asahel name mean made by God, are you made by God too and you think you have arrived? He did not take Abner anything to destroy the young man; he was struck to death shamefully. Abner did not fight Asahel, one on one; you can imagine how he was killed. Be careful the way you run people down? Do you know how the young prophet was destroyed by old person? Be wise in dealing with your master.

Word Affirmation: And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee - Deuteronomy 28:10 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
