HOW TO COPE WITH SUCCESS (3)

TOPIC: HOW TO COPE WITH SUCCESS (3)
TEXT: PHILLIPIANS 3:13-14

What lessons can we learn from David’s achievements? He was said to be a man after God’s heart. How can we then cope with success without losing that which is important to us and to God? Here are some five very important things to adhere to:

1. Do Not Forget Your Purpose. Success often brings notoriety and popularity, which in turn brings distraction, which in turn often brings failure. We have seen David concentrating on the challenges God gave him: to represent Him on the throne, to establish the empire, and to protect the nation through whom the Messiah would come. Because David stayed focused, he fulfilled those challenges magnificently. Are you fulfilling God's purpose or you are derailing?

We must keep our priorities straight: God first, others second (with family at the top of the list), and ourselves last. Paul said, “One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13, 14). Note the phrase “One thing I do.” Not “a dozen things I try,” not “a hundred things I dabble at,” but “one thing I do.” Paul was a focused individual— focused on Christ. Let us spend time in thought and prayer to decide what God wants us to do with your life. Do not forget those aims and purposes. Stay focused.

In staying focused, never look at those who praise you or those who talk you down, both are distraction especially when you are yet to achieve the purpose. Fix your eyes on the goal, that’s your concern. Do not just forget about the past, do not also holds on to the moment until you reach your destination. Above all, arm yourself with weapon of determination.

Word Affirmation: The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want – Psalm 23:1 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“You must live according to pattern set by God for your life.”
