DIRECTORS WITHOUT DIRECTION (2)

When we pray to God for direction, invariably we are asking God for His purpose, plan or a vision to live by. Assuming one pray to God for direction and the Almighty says, “You shall become a great nation”. Does that mean such will become it without any effort? No! For God always speak about the end, He will never tell what one will pass through but what one would become if follow through. In Isaiah 43:2, God said, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” to tell you that, getting a purpose from God is one thing, becoming it is another.

So you get a direction from God, yes! What next? To become it, you must work things out yourself and that’s why we consider the meaning of the word, DIRECTION looking at each character. The D in the word can be said to stand for DETERMINATION, any man whether he cut his vision from God or not needs determination to succeed. There are difficulties on the road to success, you might run into obstacles and roadblocks, but if you are not determined, one may easily give up on the road. Like the Book of Isaiah says, one must indeed pass through the waters, the rivers, and the fire to become what God says he will become. Life is a risk and there is nothing that you want to do in this world, if you have no determination, no success. Therefore, to reach your destination, you must be firm and dedicated.

Wikipedia describes determination to mean, “a positive emotional feeling that involves persevering towards a difficult goal in spite of obstacles. Determination occurs prior to goal attainment and serves to motivate behaviour that will help achieve one's goal”. Indecision, cowardice, timidity, fear, living in the beginning, doubt and start are the opposites, enemies of determination. If any man start a thing and do not have the determination to pull through, such is tagged a failure. Indecision as well as living in fear will hinder any man to reach his goal – 2 Timothy 1:7.

Grace Lichtenstein said, "Your opponent, in the end, is never really the player on the other side of the net, or the swimmer in the next lane, or the team on the other side of the field, or even the bar you must high-jump. Your opponent is yourself, your negative internal voices, your level of determination." There is no need to rush in life, go gradually and steadily, persist in the face of oppositions, be patient, wait for results, and have faith and courage in yourself; never be discouraged, do your best in all you do, and seek assistance from others whenever the need arises. Achievement in life is a process of selection and elimination or choosing between the worthy and the worthless. Thus, unless we are inspired by determination and a great purpose to make our life count, we may not make much of an impression about us. Therefore, learn from Nehemiah in rebuilding your walls.
