DEALING WITH PROBLEMS

DEALING WITH PROBLEMS

Everyone has problems. Trouble is no respecter of persons. Men and women all over the world, both young and old, experience difficulties in life. Saints and sinners alike struggle from time to time. People face social problems, mental and emotional problems, financial problems, family problems, physical problems, and spiritual problems.

The experiences that are perceived as problems vary from place to place and from time to time. Still, people in every culture have problems. How are we to deal with the problems that come our way? Specifically, what is the Christian response to problems we experience? If we are to deal with problems successfully, we need to develop a Christian perspective.

Problems are real: Some religions teach that problems are not real. Christian Science, for instance, teaches that illness is an illusion and that material things do not exist; disease and pain are only products of faulty thinking. The Bible teaches, in contrast, that what we experience with our senses is real. We really exist as people of flesh and blood; and the world about us is real, with all of its beauty and ugliness, its promises and threats. Just as volcanoes and tsunamis are real, so are the disappointments and diseases that negatively affect our lives.

Problems are to be expected: We should not be surprised when we experience problems in this life. We live in a fallen world. When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, they and their descendants suffered because of sin. Problems are even to be expected by God’s people. Being Christians does not exempt us from the daily problems that beset everyone else. As Christians, we are asked to bear our cross (Matthew 16:24) and are promised that those who lead godly lives will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12). Why should Christians—who follow Jesus who lived as a poor man and ultimately suffered and died as an innocent man—expect to live without problems, pain, and suffering?

But in all of these, Christ said, we must be of good cheer. Behave as if nothing happens because He had overcome the world. Your faith in God overcomes also the world and its problems. Beloved, behave your victory, rejoice in all and every situation, “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? – 1 John 5:4-5. It is season of singing, dancing and rejoicing. Never let anything take away your joy. Surround yourself with positive people and choose what you think on, let it be the Word of God and I see you in your testimonies. Good morning.

Word Affirmation: “Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.  Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 41:15-16 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“Be of good cheer, you are a victor.”
