SENT TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED (1)
Throughout the Bible, God reveals Himself as a healer—both physically and emotionally. One of the most profound aspects of Jesus’ mission was His ministry to the brokenhearted. In a world full of pain, disappointment, and loss, Jesus brings healing and restoration to those who are hurting.
The Nature of a Broken Heart
A broken heart is one of the deepest kinds of pain that a person can experience. It is a condition that goes beyond physical pain, affecting the core of a person’s being. People can experience broken hearts for many reasons: the loss of a loved one, betrayal, failure, rejection, or unfulfilled dreams. Whatever the cause, a broken heart can leave a person feeling hopeless, wounded, and overwhelmed.
The Bible often uses the imagery of a broken heart to describe deep emotional distress. David, in the Psalms, frequently cried out to God from a place of brokenness, seeking His healing and comfort. Psalm 34:18 tells us, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” God is especially close to those who are brokenhearted, and He offers healing for their wounds.
Jesus, the Healer of the Brokenhearted
When Jesus stood in the synagogue and read from the scroll of Isaiah, He declared that He was sent to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18). This was a central part of His mission. Jesus came to bring wholeness and restoration to those who were wounded by life’s hardships.
Throughout His ministry, we see Jesus bringing healing to people in many different ways. He healed physical diseases, but He also healed emotional wounds. When Jesus encountered the woman at the well (John 4), He didn’t just offer her living water; He also addressed the deep emotional pain and shame she carried from her past relationships. He saw her broken heart and offered her healing and hope.
Word Affirmation: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. " – Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
"Jesus is the healer of the brokenhearted, binding up every wound and offering hope and restoration."
