OVER CONQUERORS (2)
What a wonderful privilege it is to be called a child of God! An old preacher whom everyone loved used to stride down the street with a smiling face and a ramrod-straight back, looking contented, and happy, as if nothing could be wrong. Someone once said to him, “You look as if you owned the world.” “I don’t,” he replied, without breaking a stride, “but my Father does!” Indeed, our Father does own the world! Why should we be distressed or fearful? We can overwhelmingly win the victory over the trials and difficulties of this world because we are the children of the One who created the world!
It logically follows that if we are God’s children, we are also His heirs. Would it not be great to be the child and heir of a millionaire? How much greater to be the child and heir of the Father who owns everything! Notice, too, that we are joint-heirs with Christ. Imagine the glory Jesus, the Word, had with God from the beginning until the time when He came to earth and emptied Himself of many of the prerogatives of deity. Then imagine the welcome He received from the Father when He returned to His rightful place on the right hand of the Father. What glory, honor, power, and majesty He must have received then! This passage (see also Revelation 3:20) teaches that we will receive the same kind of welcome, the same kind of glory! We will share in His inheritance! Surely, then, we can say that we are indeed more than conquerors.
I cannot stress too strongly that neither in this passage nor any other New Testament passage are we as Christians promised freedom from problems or persecution, from sickness or death. Why be a Christian, then, if the Christian also suffers? One reason is: because sickness can have new meaning to the Christian, it can be viewed as a blessing rather than a curse. Even if that seems impossible, the Christian can always say, “No matter how much I suffer or how long I suffer, a better life awaits me over there. Even if I never find relief from pain or suffering here, I will find it there and that relief will be eternal.
Word Affirmation: Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies. - Psalm 108:13 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
“Christ has given us victory in this life and the One to come. Live as overcomer.”
