MY MATES WERE NOT THAT LUCKY
TOPIC: MY MATES WERE NOT THAT LUCKY
TEXT: NUMBERS 1:47-54
Remember, I escaped but not without a fight. I couldn’t run away totally from that area because of my exams, but managed to live around it. I went in prepared for the exam, entered examination hall to only become sick and cold; in and out of the examination at this time, it was one sickness or the other. I managed to pass some papers but not as my school projected, I was counted among those that would even make distinctions even in mathematics. That was my own reward for missing the mark of joining a cult, but for some of my mates who joined them at that time, some of them travelled abroad for their studies and some were doing fine here at home, but years later I began to hear about their death and calamities that befallen many.
Christianity is a personal journey and I urge you to sit down and closely look at the Scriptures, as I said yesterday, responding to altar call is not the main issue, having an encounter with Christ is the real thing. I found that many people around then though believed in Christ, attended church regularly and fervent for the Lord but were not living to expectation and I was shocked. Some who supposed to be role models would do something that you will now begin to think whether Christianity is real or not. Look, if you accept Christ the way other people accepted Him, you will end up with the same experience. But if you really want to have a genuine experience and permanent encounter with Christ, you have to behave contrary to tradition of someone is preaching, at the end, raise altar call and you go out, cry at the altar, repent instantly, but not forgetting your behaviours and then go back to sin again. Yes, you will be saying, there is forgiveness and grace to support you on the journey whereas the divine grace is there to do some definite works in your life, but you will misuse it. So seek for an encounter with Christ (like Saul on the road to Damascus), an event that you will never ever forget in your life which will keep you going and steady in the Lord.
God warned Moses not to count the Levites and gave them the great task of the Tabernacle; He counted them as His own people. Even though God promised those that will be saved to be their God, but right from the time the Levites took a decision to stand with God, He has been their God and they His people. If you give your life to Christ and you understand your roles in the Temple and live accordingly, you will be rewarded with God. You will have all what you need, God will give all your heart desires though it may not come the way you planned it. Many of my mates who joined then enjoyed their past but no more today, though not boasting, still standing and waxing stronger in the Lord is still a great miracle for me. God is good to those who recognize Him early and walk with Him in fulfilling His plan. Let God be in your story today, no matter how painful it is, surely tomorrow will come with its pleasantness. Have a great day!
