FINDING GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE (1)

For people in the Old Testament time, it was pretty easy to find God’s direction, it’s either God appeared to them in a dream, received the visitation of an Angel or seen the appearance of God in a cloud by day and cloud of fire by night. Like the Israelites, if the cloud moved they continued their journey and if the cloud settled, they knew they had to stay till God wanted them to. They have the laws as precepts and Moses the man of God to provide solutions to their problems.

But for we at this other side of the Testament, people of the New Testament, God not only changed the rules, He changed the way He makes His revelation known. In 2 Corinthians 5:7, Apostle Paul commanded us to walk by faith, and not by sight. God no longer appear in clouds or upon mountains or send directions by ruggedly-dressed prophets out of the wilderness. Perhaps, the greatest problem people struggle with in life today is. “How to determine the will of God? With this rather broad question, several others spring up. At least four other questions in regard to the will of God: (1) What are the signs one should look for as an answer to his prayers? (2) In how many decisions should one seek the specific will of God? In the major areas of life (i.e., job, family, career, changing location)? In my total life? In every decision? (3) What should one do to find out the will of God? How do one approach God for those answers? (4) What biblical examples are valid for one to follow?

One can walk into any religious bookshop today or browse online and find books written on “How to Find the Will of God.” But do these provide the total answer? The books or articles contents will often reveal the use of many biblical passages and examples for people to follow in determining God’s will in their lives today. Are those biblical examples valid and normative for our use today? What exactly is the “will of God”? How many wills does God have? It seems I have raised more questions than finding sufficient answers, but in this series, Holy Spirit will help us to answer three major questions: (1) Are biblical examples normative for New Testament Christians today? (2) What exactly is the will of God? How many wills does He have? (3) How would He want us to seek His will in our lives?

One thing you should know, you are on earth to do the will of God. You are a pattern written; you must become what is written of you. The reason why there is storm in some people’s lives maybe due to paddling their canoes on wrong waters. Check Jonah, he was to go to Nineveh but heading to Tarshish, he brought calamities on those he entered into their ship. One man that is not in the will of God can cause problem for one hundred others who are in God’s will. If you are not sure you are in God’s will, you need to stop all activities now and go to God in prayer for a distinct direction. Pray this prayer, Lord, show me thy glory!

Word Affirmation: “O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble." - Isa 33:2 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
