WHY DO YOU LOVE THE LORD?

TOPIC: WHY DO YOU LOVE THE LORD?
TEXT: PSALM 5:1-19

How would you finish this sentence? “I love the Lord because…” Obviously, most would answer, “…because He first loved me.” OK. But now moving on to something that requires a little more thought on our part, take another pass at it. “I love the Lord because…” The Psalmist says, “Because He has heard my voice and my supplications.” The Amplified Bible says, “He has heard and now hears my voice.” Other translations say things like, “You have answered my prayers,” or “You have heard my pleas for mercy,” and also, “You have heard my cry for Your favor.”

So, if someone were to ask you, “Why do you love the Lord?” – could you put it in an answer so succinct as this? Or, is your love for the Lord rather ambiguous? Take a moment and compile a list, a meaningful list, of the specific reasons why you love the Lord. You just might find that your faith will begin to strengthen and your love will begin to deepen. As for me? I love the Lord because He has proven Himself true to His Word over and over again in my life. Every promise He has made, He has kept. Every direction He has given, He has blessed as we followed His lead. Yes, I love the Lord because He is faithful. Everyone who loves the Lord has a definite answer they can give as to why. So, how about you? What answer will you give?

The motive behind your love for God must be genuine and sincere in all its sphere, Abraham staggered not at the promise of God due to his love for Him. Though it seems all hope is lost, Abraham kept his love of God for God. Why do you love the Lord? If your love is based on God gives, He answers, He prospers, He keeps, He protect and many more, there is need for you to add knowledge to your faith. You must love God absolutely without any string attached. Never based your love for God on things you want to receive from Him, just love God for who He is. What if He didn’t protect or keep, will you still love Him? Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him: but I will maintain mine own ways before Him – Job 13:15. How many can still stand in the love of God if s/he is the one in Job’s shoe?

Men of old served God not because of what they wanted to get from Him, but men of our days have turned God to be a jackpot, expecting to receive from Him all the time. It is your love for God that will create access for you to receive all those things, if you pretend to love Him, He knows. Just do everything that you can to God and leave it just there, He knows what to do; but if you think to be smart, He will deal with you until you learn your lessons.

Word Affirmation: “I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD." - Psalm 116:17 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
