THE MINISTER’S BUSINESS
All that God called, justified and glorified are the ministers of His Gospel; He saved us to minister unto Him. For we were not saved unto ourselves, but set free and delivered to worship God in the wilderness and in the Promised Land. The Israelites were delivered from the land of bondage because God had already set them apart for Himself, before they got to Canaan, God had already gave them laws, statues and commandments and set the Levites apart for His works. God called you not to just make you, but called you to make others. He told Peter, I will make you the fisher of men. Peter’s profession is fishing, Christ’s procession and profession is to make Peter the fisher of men. God does not spread His mercies on a man without a purpose.
If you are saved, you are God’s minister and His business for all His ministers to preach the Word, the Gospel; repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand. You that have been saved, stand for the salvation of others. Why you are rising to preach the Word, be careful where the Word falls. Ensure you preach pure plain Word of God; and you must not corrupt it, but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, you must speak in Christ to the people. Is a day going by without you preaching the Gospel to somebody? You have no excuse not to preach the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ except you are not born again or saved.
You must preach the Word, and press it with all earnestness upon your hearers whether they like it or not; call upon your hearers to repent, and believe, and live a holy life, and this both in season and out of season. You must do it in season, that is, let no opportunity slip; and do it out of season, that is, not shift off the duty, under pretence that it is out of season. You must tell the people their faults: “Reprove them, rebuke them. Convince wicked people of the evil and danger of their wickedness. Endeavour, by dealing plainly with them, to bring them to repentance. Rebuke them with gravity and authority, in Christ's name, that they may take thy displeasure against them as an indication of God's displeasure.”
Answer every man by the Word of God; let your words be season with grace, encouragement, power and authority. Christ answered Satan by the Word, and Satan himself was reduced to silence by the Word. He who does not submit to the words of God thereby shows himself to be a rebel against God. The rule given of God is in the scriptures; the energetic action of His Spirit is in ministry, although God can equally act upon the heart immediately by the word itself. Nevertheless ministry, since the revelations of God were completed, could not be an authority, or there would be two authorities; and if two, one must be a needless repetition of the other, or else, if they differed, no authority at all. All of us are called to be evangelists, do not limit yourself to the four walls of the church, go ye and preach the Gospel.
