TOPIC: IS THE LORD THY GOD?
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 28:58-63
MEMORY VERSE: “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17

Is the Lord your God? If indeed you have the only true God as your Lord, you will do His will, walk in His ways and dwell in His love. For God so love the world that He gave, this love many have abused and taken for granted. Our case is like that of a man who had a beautiful wife with godly character, before the man say a thing, the wife knows what to do. She cherished her husband so much and would not allow anything to happen to him, but as much as this woman keeps trying to please her husband, the man never appreciated, but always abuses her. Never mind, the day the woman was taken away from him, his entire world collapse, he sought for her with tears but couldn’t get. Many of us are like this man to God, we have always taking God for a ride and for every time God is calling us we tend to ignore his friendly love and abuse the privileges we have in Him. We are like immature man who takes the love of his life for granted until there is no godly woman to marry.

If you know the God of the Bible you will realize He is a loving, jealous and fearful God, I wonder at the behaviours of the so called children of God today and I say to myself, are we serving the same Lord the older generations served in the Bible? He is a no nonsense God. When God led the Israelites into the promise land, he gave them laws, statutes and commandments to observe, and he warned them on many things. He told them through Moses that if they failed to observe to do all the wordings of these laws and fear His glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; He will bring upon them wonderful plaques (Deut. 28:58-59). God is dynamic and it is not somebody that anybody can lead you to, your pastor can only show you the way but you must find Him yourself. It does not matter whether you are a pastor, a chorister or a worker in the vineyard of God, if you truly do not have a personal encounter with this God, you will think Christianity is a ruse. He is a God of principle, a loving Father but also a consuming fire.

Do you and I observe the word of God? Do we examine to put it into practise? Do you truly fear His name? How many hours do you have to study or read the Word of God in a day talk less of doing His will? If you read today’s passage, you might wonder why this present plague is ravaging the world. The world including you have neglected God, don’t claim you are not, if God open your eyes to things you suppose to do and that you are not doing, you will humble yourself. The world has neglected God for the god of soccer; did it not happen in this nation when some churches took televisions to church to watch football? How are our services, special programs or youth meetings different from worldly clubs and partying? Has it not happened that in some churches they held beauty pageant shows? Comedy shows in churches were the order of the day before now, even at a time, the church were inviting Nollywood actors and actresses to come and preach, all in the name of commanding crowd. I am afraid the church has raised men for the devil. God is watching and we have burnt our fingers. Read Deuteronomy 28:58-63 and you will understand why we are in this mess. Just one plague has messed our entire system up, with one plague seat of power are collapsing and school shut and somebody was asking, is there no man to call fire from heaven and stop the plague? Why can’t you call fire from your years of comedy in the church? The truth is, it will take a man that the Lord is his God to do so. How many can genuinely boast that the Lord is my Shepherd? We only recite Psalm 23; many of us do not mean it.

You know what you did to build that your house (how many people you defrauded); you know what you did to buy that car (the number of files you converted as a public servant), even the phone in your hand, who bought it for you? Maybe your boy or man friend, is it the same person that will call fire from heaven like Elijah? Beloved, is God your God? If God is your God, why are you misbehaving? Why are you pleased in your sins? I sense you need to take time to know this God. Paul the Apostle, a man of passion, the one that wrote half of the New Testament, who planted church in the house of Caesar after many years in Ministry cried out one day, “that I may know Him (God, Christ) and the power of His resurrection.” If it is the same God Paul served that you think you are serving, I think you need to recheck. The one who have used his entire life for the things of God, still praying to know God, then, who are you? Is the Lord your God indeed, I ask again. Please check.
