TEXT: ACTS 1:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground:
for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” – Hosea 10:12
God has been a seeker right from the Garden of Eden, every day He fellowship with Adam and Eve, even on the day they fell He was still there to check their estate. Since the fall of man God has been looking for a way to fellowship with man His creature. He found Noah, Enoch, Abraham and the rest and later chose the Israelites to be His own people. God’s love towards mankind is immeasurable and cannot be comprehended (Romans 5:8), He loves mankind so much that He gave His only begotten Son to die for the sins of the world because He was seeking for true relationship (John 3:16).
But many profess to love God today but in reality their love for Him is deficient in the sense that it is what they want to collect from Him that they are after, not Him as their Father. By their actions, some want Jesus to be their Lord and not their Saviour; likewise some want Him to be their Saviour and not their Lord. The way you behave and act in your neighbourhood, can anybody called you a child of God? Christians today are full of church activities but lack God’s revelation. We have mastered the system like service day: opening prayers, praise/worship, testimonies, bible reading, choir ministration, message and benediction, we know what next during service but never known what next in our lives. This is how some Christians live their lives, they are fervent for the things of God but not God Himself, and many can go for choir rehearsals but will never open their Bibles. Revival hours, prayer meetings, group meetings, they will never want to miss but ask them when was the last time they hear from God; they will be like what are you saying. Many are present in church but absent in God’s presence. If you are among, you need a spiritual reset, you need to reboot. This season has presented an opportunity to restart your journey with God.
Check your appearance when you go to church or outside the church, check your motive in going to church, the position you are holding if your pastor suddenly bring another person junior to you to come heading that department, what will be your reaction? Some can leave their shops for fellowship and church services but simple obedient they do not have. Some talk more about their church than Christ, can quote their pastors more than the Scriptures. The reason why our generation is not seeing God is because we are too comfortable, common question we will not ask and many of us are not behaving like the Berean women; we just believe anything and take anything, hook, line and sinker. We need to return to God wholeheartedly.
Now that Coronavirus is sending everybody home and spend many hours indoor, it is time for you to spend this time to seek the only true God. God needs your attention, He want to speak with you but your work, academics, business, career, clubbing, football, etc has not allow you, now that there is a stay at home order, may be you will have time for God. The virus is creating an avenue for you to have quality time with God, unlike your usual habit of waking up in the morning, then spend few minutes in the presence of God and off you go, it is time to refresh, it is time to seek the Lord. Press that reset button, you need to refill and ‘refire’ for God. If you are still using this period to watch Africa Magic, Zeeworld, WWE, etc you are not using your time well; it is time to retreat and rest in the arm of the Almighty.
The disciples fellowship with Jesus Christ for 40days after His resurrection and while leaving, He admonished them to go to Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit and before He finished His speech He was taken away from them and the Angels of God reminded them that the same Jesus is coming back again but if they need the fellowship and relationship with the Father, they must go to the upper room, there they stayed to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. How many hours do you spend in the presence of God daily? Do you really have time for God? Now that government is asking you to stay at home, won’t you use this opportunity to come to God and re-equip yourself for the days ahead? No one knows what will happen next, like the Angels said, Jesus is coming back. His coming is imminent and can be at anytime. Are you ready? Do you prepare for Him at all? If Christ comes now, will you reign with Him? In order not to be like the foolish virgins who did not have extra oil for their lamps, it is better to wisely prepare your heart and household for God as Christ can come at anytime.
Beloved, this disease has made us to understand that nothing matters in this world. As of today, what matter to you and I is our lives and our families. Suddenly, offices announce stay at home, school closed, airports shut, no movement in some parts of the world, nothing matter to us all now except our lives. Will you love the world and things thereof to lose your soul? God forbid. In order to be friend with God again, you must press that reset button. Ask God to come into your life, rededicate your life to Christ, study the word of God regularly, pray and commune with God, have fellowship with the Holy Spirit, do the work of an evangelist, spread the Gospel, read good books and let your family knows you are around then you can be reuse by God and be useful to Him. Welcome back.
