Recognising Jesus in the Ordinary

Recognising Jesus in the Ordinary
In our everyday lives, we often overlook the divine hidden in plain sight. The disciples walking to Emmaus didn’t recognise Jesus when He joined their journey. He walked, talked, and even taught them about the Scriptures, yet they couldn’t see who He was. It wasn’t until He broke bread that their eyes were opened. This moment is a powerful reminder that Jesus doesn’t always show up in dramatic ways. Sometimes, He’s in the small things-kindness from a stranger, a quiet prayer answered, or even a calming sunrise. We must learn to see Jesus in our ordinary routines, conversations, and acts of service.
The challenge lies not in Jesus’ absence but in our spiritual perception. These two disciples had all the information: they knew about the crucifixion, the resurrection story, and the empty tomb. Yet they were still blinded by sorrow and disappointment. Likewise, we can be so overwhelmed by life’s pressures that we miss His presence. But Jesus patiently walks beside us, even when we don’t see Him. Recognising Him requires a heart that listens, eyes that are open to wonder, and faith that sees beyond the surface. Jesus often hides in plain sight to see who’s willing to look deeper.
When we begin to recognise Jesus in the ordinary, life transforms. That random call from a friend, the peaceful feeling during prayer, or a Scripture verse that speaks directly to your situation-these are not coincidences. They are divine moments. Our eyes are opened not just through bread but through fellowship, prayer, and Scripture. Jesus shows up when we invite Him into our day. So today, be attentive. He may appear in a whisper, a conversation, or even a simple meal.
Word Affirmation: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11) (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
"Jesus is often hidden in plain sight, waiting to be recognised by the heart that’s willing to see beyond the ordinary."
