PUTTING ON A NEW SELF

TOPIC: PUTTING ON A NEW SELF
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3:1-17

Giving your life to Christ, though make you free from ceremonial law’s obligations, it does not therefore follow that you may live as you list or wish. You must walk the more closely with God in all the instances of evangelical obedience. Like Apostle Pauls exhorted, you must set your heart on heaven and take them off from this world; you must know the things in heaven, like John, how the road is paved, and what manner of mansion Jesus is building, how the street is made and named. What type of food do they eat in heaven, what is their practices and operation. You must know all of these and without holiness it is impossible to have open revelation.

Now that you are born again, the next thing you must do right is to be baptized. Water baptism, not sprinkling was commanded and practices by our Lord and Saviour Jesus; for you must die and rise up with Jesus in baptism. When you are been immersed into the waters, it signifies your death with Christ, old life died with Christ and when you are coming out of water you received the new life of Jesus, a new man, a new creature is born. Everybody that sees you thereafter sees a change in your behaviour. If you have not gotten your baptism right, do so immediately (check Matthew 3:13-17; Acts 10:47-48; Matthew 28:19).

Now that you are in Christ, you need someone like Him who will interpret and relate your desires to Christ and God’s will to you. That person is the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, Christ promised His disciples the person of the Holy Spirit, you need Him in your new journey and life (John 14:16-18; 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:5, 8; 2:1-12). Thereafter, you can now begin to live a new life in Christ Jesus. You will then have power to subdue the deeds of the flesh, put away everything evil out of your life: fornication, adultery, stealing, uncleanness, inordinate affection, wickedness, and covetousness among others. You cannot have all of these in your life after you have given your life to Christ and still called yourself a born again child of God, old things must pass and all things become new. Check the Jesus you receive if you still do any of the things mentioned above, it might not be the Jesus of Nazareth that you received.

If you are indeed a born again child of God, you must make the Word of God your companion, this is the only way you can learn and hear from God apart from His audible voice. But how can you recognize Him if you have interact with Him via His Words? You need the Bible, get the version you will understand clearly and make it a point of duty to read daily. Your destination is assured if you stick to what is written therein. Thereafter, wear holiness like garments, mercy, kindness, humility, longsuffering; forgiveness, tolerance and the peace of God will overshadow your life. Get your affection right in Christ in order not to be deceived by the world and the devil. Finally, you need to fellowship with right brethren, look out for a Bible believing church to join your faith with others.

Word Affirmation: “And there shall be no more curse..." - Revelation 22:3 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
