Peace Be Unto You

Peace Be Unto You

In John 20, after the resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples, who were hiding behind locked doors for fear of the Jews. The very first words He spoke to them were, “Peace be unto you” (John 20:19). These words were not casual greetings but divine impartations. The same Christ who calmed the stormy sea now calmed the inner storm of His followers. The resurrection did not just demonstrate His power over death; it also brought eternal peace into the lives of those who believe in Him. His presence turned fear into courage and despair into hope.

The peace Christ gives is not like the world’s fragile calm that depends on outward conditions. Rather, it is the kind that remains even when the doors are shut and hearts are troubled. “Peace be unto you” is both a declaration and a spiritual reality. It means reconciliation with God, restoration of the soul, and security in Christ. Jesus repeated this phrase twice in the same encounter (John 20:21), emphasizing how central peace is to His resurrection message. He was not only alive—He was giving them the fullness of life, beginning with peace.

For believers today, this same peace is available and active. Regardless of the storms around us—sickness, loss, uncertainty, or fear—Christ walks into the rooms of our lives and speaks peace. His peace stabilizes our minds, restores our confidence, and empowers our mission. Immediately after this declaration of peace, Jesus said, “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:21). In other words, peace prepares us for purpose. When you walk in the peace of Christ, you’re ready to walk in the power of Christ.

Word Affirmation: “The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.” - Psalm 29:11 (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)

"The peace Christ offers isn’t the absence of trouble, but the presence of God in the midst of it."
