Eyes Opened at the Breaking of Bread

Eyes Opened at the Breaking of Bread

There is something sacred about a shared meal. In the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, they only recognised Jesus when He broke bread with them. After walking miles with Him, listening to Him teach and explain the Scriptures, it was in the familiar act of breaking bread that their eyes were opened. This moment reminds us that God often chooses the simplest acts to reveal the deepest truths. In the stillness of a meal, in daily habits, and quiet fellowship, Jesus becomes real-not distant or abstract, but personal and near.

The breaking of bread wasn’t just about eating. It was about communion, remembrance, and revelation. For the disciples, it was a reminder of the Last Supper-Jesus’ final moment of intimacy before the cross. Today, every time we pause in prayer, read the Word, or share with others in love, we break bread spiritually. And in doing so, our spiritual eyes can be opened to see the grace, love, and truth of Christ right where we are. The Lord often reveals Himself not in the extraordinary, but in our everyday obedience and simple acts of worship.

When we take time to "break bread"-to slow down, reflect, and invite Jesus into our moments-we begin to see with new eyes. Disappointments lose their grip, confusion gives way to clarity, and sorrow turns into joy. Jesus wants to reveal Himself, but are we making space at the table for Him? Your breakthrough might be one quiet moment away. Invite Him in. Sit with Him. Let Him break the bread-and in doing so, open your heart.

Word Affirmation: “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8) (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)

"Jesus reveals Himself not only in miracles, but in moments-especially when we make room for Him at our table."
