EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT, A LESSON

EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT, A LESSON

In this age when integrity and trust are scarce, it is wisdom to know how to deal with people whether in business, in ministry or in any project you are embarking upon with people. It is great wisdom to know how to manage your disappointment. Hardly, you find a (wo)man that have not experience any disappointment, the people you trust with all your heart, time and resources come around to mess you up and betray your trust, it is wisdom to design a way to the outcome of such experience even before it happened. Of a truth, no matter how careful are you disappointment will certainly come, but develop strategies ahead of time to prevent, reduce or cancel the pains and wounds that come along with such experience.

If you read the whole of Genesis 26, you will realize that Isaac put all his trust in Gerar. The Bible says in verse 1, he went unto Abimelech the king and in verse 6, it was said concerning Isaac, “he dwelt in Gerar”. He put his entire life down in this land, he settled and established therein. The word, “dwelt” in this verse does not suggest Isaac wanted to sojourn in the land like his father; Gerar was the land of his birth but due to famine he wanted to go down to Egypt until God appeared to him to stay in the land in which he obeyed.

Isaac had a verbal agreement with Abimelech, but he met disappointment in the way the people of the land treated him. All the wells that he dung was collected from him, all the business he did was hijacked. Haven’t you seen two friends doing business together, they will fine tune how the business we go or submit a proposal for a project, but when the money is finally approved one of them will bolt with the money and claimed after all we did not sign anything, there is no agreement between us. It is worst in our generation, men no longer have integrity.

The man, Isaac did not become very great until he went into a written agreement with Abimelech the king, never go into any business with anyone, mark my word, “with anyone”, whether it is your blood, someone close or associate without a written agreement, memorandum of understanding duly signed by both parties, properly documented and if possible, make a recording of it too. Are you in a relationship? Don’t be carried away because someone profess to love you, open your eyes and shine it properly and do not forget at the onset to ask what is in for you. Whatever business you are doing ensure you have evidence to claim what belongs to you when issues arise. Before Isaac went into agreement with the King, his servants had dung many wells which the people of the land collected from him, he couldn’t do anything because no document to show, but when they set up stones as a mark of covenant between Isaac and the inhabitants of the land, they trouble him no more. Do you want to live a trouble free life when it comes to dealing with people? Get a written agreement and call one or two people to serve as witnesses and if any party renege you have an evidence to back your claim.

Learn from life disappointment and develop a way to manage them so that you can dwell in your land in peace and enjoying whatever blessings God has for you. Do not go to cloud nine based on any promise until the fulfilment of that promise. Never go into a business you do not know the source. You will not fall into the trap of your enemies, amen.

Word Affirmation: I, mention your name, sow in this land, and receive in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him - Genesis 26:12 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“Do not go to cloud nine based on any promise until the fulfilment of that promise. Never go into a business you do not know the source.”
