DO YOU HAVE BREAD ENOUGH?

DO YOU HAVE BREAD ENOUGH?

Jesus Christ proposed to Phillip where to get enough bread to feed great multitude that followed Him, this made Philip nonplus, and he did not know except that there was no money to buy enough bread. The question Christ asked was, “Where can we buy enough bread for all these people to eat?” Invariably, Christ was checking the life of Philip whether there is enough bread (life in abundance) to fill the bodies of the multitude that throng round Him. The Bread of Life Himself knew what to do but only testing Philip (checking Philip’s life whether he had life in him) to fill the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of the people.

There are several reasons why Jesus asked Philip that question; Philip was born in Bethsaida near where this incident happened, so since he was born here, he should know where. But he did not just miss the point, he was busy looking at how, how much and what’s going to cost Jesus to buy enough bread to feed the people. When you check your life for what people around need, where do we look to? Or, are you lost in thought forgetting about the God who gives daily bread? When you are fed, do you also think that a day will come when Christ will ask you to feed His lamb and sheep with what you have in store? - John 21:15-17. Philip did not have it and likewise other disciples, but a little boy had five loaves, not five slices, enough to feed him and whosoever that cares around him. The problems around you are meant to be solved but because you have not thought that Christ will ask you one day to use what you have to lift people out of their challenges, you did not save enough.

Philip was busy calculating the cost of bread, not where to get; let me warn you to stop calculating God with your brain; everything is possible to those who believe. We are not seeing the power of God in our generation because we are used to the slogan of “let’s face reality”. Christ directed the enquiry to Philip who had been His disciple from the first, and had seen all His miracles, and particularly that of His turning water into wine, and therefore it might be expected that he should have said, “Lord, if thou wilt, it is easy to Thee to feed them all. But Philip was talking about reality, but Christ already knew that reality does not exist unless you permitted the outcome. Do you have what people need? Which of these spiritual gifts (prophesy, teaching, helps, administration, etc) can you by grace boldly claim and use to the glory of God? If people ask you for a reason to live, can you lead them to Jesus? When was the last time you share the Gospel with people around you? The souls of the poor are as precious to Christ; they need your bread and mine for them to be well fed.

Word Affirmation: "I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." - Psa 91:2 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“ We are not seeing the power of God in our generation because we are used to the slogan of “let’s face reality.””
