CORONAVIRUS VERSUS MUSTARD SEED

TOPIC: CORONAVIRUS VERSUS MUSTARD SEED
TEXT: MATTHEW 17:14-20
MEMORY VERSE: “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” – Matthew 17:20

As small as the virus called corona or COVID-19 is, one can never imagine that the virus that started in the Wuhan city of China will ravage the world like this and brought the entire world down to its knees. More than 136million has been affected worldwide with 2.94million deaths recorded (Source: Wikipedia). Assuming that you as a believer can have little faith like that of mustard seed or as small as coronavirus, do you know how many people, nations and regions that by now you might have affected or effected? By now, the entire world would have been on its knees too looking up to God and experiencing divine manifestations. As believers, we must pick great lessons from the issue of COVID-19 and allow it to speak to us. If you have little faith you can tell whatever mountain confronting you to be removed.

A certain man came to Jesus, kneeling down to him saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic and sore vexed: for often he falls into fire, and oft into the water and I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Imagine the disciples of Jesus who just returned from a mission work and told Jesus about their supernatural experiences; how they demonstrated God’s power in healing the sick and how demons bowed to them. But at this moment, they could not perform such miracle again; as usual they prayed for the boy in the name of Jesus but the demon refused to leave. The reaction of Jesus was so surprising when He returned, He rebuked the faithlessness of His disciples and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? When the disciples came to Jesus to ask why they could not heal the boy, He said to them because of their unbelief and if they have faith as a grain of mustard seed, they would do the impossible.

The Lord grieves over the unbelief of His disciples. Though they had enjoyed His careful teaching, they had failed to grasp His secret, which He here again elaborates. Faith is openness to God. It is the lifting of the curtain that the healing light may enter. The tiny seed unlocks its little doorway to welcome the entering life of nature; and as this continues to enter, it forces the rootlet downward and the green shoot upward. It is thus also with the life of God in the soul. Let this life of God in and there is no limit to what it will effect. Do you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can move mountain, you can do the impossible and you will definitely make impact in our world.

As a believer, no matter how prayerful and powerful you are in the Lord, anything you do without faith is sin. The devil molests believers not because they do not pray but because they do not act most times in faith, sometimes your acts of faith can mean rebuking instead of performing. Satan tempted Jesus to do certain things, but instead of Jesus dancing to devil’s tune, He rebuked him sharply. A child of God must be wiser than the devil; no two scenarios are the same. Remember, Jesus’ disciples just returned from a mission where they performed, but here forgetting to rebuke because the case at hand was all about faith, not by power or might. Have a faith-filled day.

Word Affirmation: “LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, [and] I was troubled." - Psalms 30:7 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“Sometimes your acts of faith can mean rebuking instead of performing."
