TOPIC: BAD MAY BE SOMETIMES GOOD
TEXT: HEBREWS 12:5-13
One of the outstanding people of the 20th century was Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf from infancy. Were her handicaps “bad”? We could honestly only say yes if we could know that she would have gained the same greatness given perfect health. This is not to ignore her pain and the loss of pleasure she experienced through her loss of sight and hearing. It is to give full credit to her accomplishments and to acknowledge the rewards of satisfaction and fulfillment which accompanied them. Judged from the perspective of the peak of success she attained, her handicaps turned out to be assets.
Likewise, God uses difficult circumstances to develop strength and to shape us in the direction He desires for us to go (2 Corinthians 12:9, 10). These circumstances seem evil but, like the discipline administered by a loving parent, turn out to have been good. We do not want to go to the extreme of assuming that God is directly responsible for everything bad that happens to us. He does not consciously choose every illness or accident that occurs in our lives.
In Job’s case it was Satan who selected the precise catastrophes with which he was afflicted. God set the limitations and helped provide the guidance that enabled Job to overcome them. He will do the same in our lives as these words from the New Testament promise: “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:12, 13).
Is there anything contrary in your life? Look to it through the lens of God so as to get prosper recognition of what the event came to do. Day and night is purely same in the presence of God, the dark cloud in your sky may be the sign of abundance of rain on your world. It takes only God to answer your “Why me” question. If it does not happen to you, who else do you think should happen to? To Mary the mother of Jesus, nailing Him to the Cross was bad, but turned to good eventually. Abraham lack of an heir for many years was so bad that even his wife had to make an alternative, but today, Abraham offspring are countless, everybody wants his blessings. How you handle things in and around your life determines what you enjoying as blessings.
Word Affirmation: “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." – Rev. 12:10 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
“It takes only God to answer your “Why me” question."
