Fire Goeth Before the Lord

Fire Goeth Before the Lord
The majestic sovereignty of God is often accompanied by fire. Psalm 97:3 declares, "A fire goeth before Him, and burneth up His enemies round about." Fire symbolizes both divine purification and judgment. When Israel gathered at Mount Sinai, the mountain quaked and burned with fire, signifying God’s holy presence. Elijah called down fire on Mount Carmel to prove the supremacy of the true God. In the wilderness, God led Israel with a pillar of fire, demonstrating His guidance and protection. Fire, therefore, signifies His consuming power, eliminating everything that opposes His holiness.
In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit descended as tongues of fire on the disciples at Pentecost, igniting boldness and divine empowerment. This fire signifies purification, illuminating the believer’s path with truth and zeal. The Lord’s fire refines His people, burning away impurities while setting them ablaze with divine passion. Those who walk in His presence are carriers of this heavenly fire, becoming beacons of His glory. However, for the rebellious, the fire of the Lord is judgment, as seen in Sodom and Gomorrah. The dual nature of divine fire calls for reverence and alignment with God’s will.
When Jesus returns, He comes with a consuming fire to judge the earth in righteousness (2 Thessalonians 1:8). Those who belong to Him are secure, for His fire purifies them, but His adversaries will experience divine wrath. Let us, therefore, embrace the fire of His presence, allowing Him to refine and empower us for His kingdom.
Word Affirmation: “For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:29) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
