DIVINE EMPOWERMENT: GOD’S STRENGTH IN ACTION

DIVINE EMPOWERMENT: GOD’S STRENGTH IN ACTION
Divine empowerment is a theme that resonates throughout the Bible. From Elijah to Moses, David to Paul, we see God's hand equipping His servants for tasks far beyond human capability. When God’s empowerment comes upon a believer, it enables them to do extraordinary things to fulfil His purpose. This isn’t limited to biblical times; today, God’s power is still available for those who trust and follow Him.
In 1 Kings 18:46, the phrase “the hand of the LORD was on Elijah” illustrates God’s supernatural strength given to His prophet. Elijah, a human like us, was able to run ahead of a royal chariot over a long distance, showing that God’s power can transcend physical limits and human capacity.
The Bible records numerous examples of people receiving divine empowerment. A well-known example is found in Exodus 14, where Moses led the Israelites across the Red Sea. Moses, a man who initially hesitated at his calling, was empowered to lead millions out of slavery. In his human strength, this task was impossible, but God’s power transformed Moses into one of the greatest leaders in history.
Another example is found in Acts 2, where the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit. Previously, these disciples had hidden in fear, but after receiving the Spirit, they preached boldly, even facing persecution. Divine empowerment turned these ordinary men into powerful vessels of the Gospel. This was a fulfilment of Jesus’s promise in Acts 1:8, where He told them, _“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.”_
The story of Gideon, found in Judges 6–7, is a profound example of divine empowerment. Gideon was initially fearful and doubted his ability to save Israel from the Midianites. However, God empowered him, and with only 300 men, Gideon defeated an entire army. Gideon’s success was not due to his own strength or strategic genius but entirely dependent on God’s power working through him. God’s message to Gideon, “The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour,” reminds us that our strength lies in God’s presence, not in our own ability.
Divine empowerment isn’t limited to grand, miraculous acts; it’s also present in the quiet strength needed for daily life. Whether it’s enduring a difficult season, forgiving someone who hurt us, or sharing God’s love in a challenging situation, His power enables us to act with courage and resilience.
In Philippians 4:13, Paul declares, _“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”_ This assurance is a reminder that when we are aligned with God’s will, His strength flows through us to accomplish His purposes. When we face tasks that seem insurmountable, we can ask for divine empowerment, trusting that God’s hand will equip us just as it did Elijah, Moses, and Gideon.
Word Affirmation: "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped. – Psalm 28:7 (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
"God’s hand equips and empowers us to fulfil His purposes, making the impossible possible through His strength."
