TRY THE SPIRITS
Every age has had false teachers. I am amazed as I look back into the history of God’s people. While Moses was gone for forty days into the mount to receive the Ten Commandments, the Israelites were led astray to worship the golden calf. The book of Judges illustrates how quickly the children of Israel strayed from the path of righteousness and worshipped idols. Solomon was led astray to worship idols. Satan has been active since the days of Adam and will continue until Jesus returns to commit him into an everlasting punishment.
Just as the devil was actively leading God’s people astray during the period of the Old Testament, so he continued with Christians. John asserted that many false prophets have gone out into the world (4:1). Even while John was writing, false teachers were leading men astray. Jesus warned repeatedly of the dangers of false teachers (Matthew 24:11, 24; Mark 13:22). Paul warned of the dangers of false teachers, saying that Satan’s servants were disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore, it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Paul challenged Timothy to instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines (1 Timothy 1:3).
We are never more than one generation away from apostasy. Our youth today will be the champions of the truth tomorrow if we train them properly. The early church saw many go out from among themselves to teach error (Acts 20:29, 30). If error could enter the church at so early an age after it was established, how much more is the danger today? As a believer, you need to always check what you receive before you believe it. You check the food before you before eating, likewise you check the person in front of you before accepting his message. Do you have the Spirit of God in you? it is suicidal to test electric current without a tester.
Word Affirmation: “ And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD." - Isaiah 11:2 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
