THE USELESS TREE
I planted cashew, orange, and mango seeds within our compound expecting it to germinate and produce fruits one day. Each day during hot season or when there is no rain, I watered it with the hope that one day, the trees will produce fruits and we eat the harvest. So recently I sudden saw the cashew tree produced another seed and later to its fruit, I was elated and watered the tree more and gave it my attention until I harvested the fruit, eat and kept the seed. I was overwhelmed with the joy that it was the seed I planted that brought out another fruit-eating-seed. But here in the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree, the owner of the fig tree planted in his vineyard came, sought fruit thereon, but found none.
We are His people, the sheep of his pasture, it is God that has made us, and not we ourselves; He has invested so much in us and expecting our fruits. Will God be disappointed He made you? Will He be disappointed He made and planted me in His Vineyard and there is nothing to show for it? God is expecting to see you performing better the way you do. Where are your fruits in Christ? All God’s investments, encouragement and gifts He endowed you with, what have you gained with it? Year in and out, you have been celebrating your birthday, don’t you know it is an opportunity given to you by God so that you can account for your stewardship? Are you wise enough to note and count your impacts for God in the last 365 days, only if you live worthily? Every year the owner kept coming expecting a harvest but when there was nothing to harvest, he asked his vinedresser to cut the tree off.
Beloved, where is the proof of Christ in your life? You can count what God has done for you through Christ but you cannot count what you have done for Him in just one year, not to talk of your entire year on earth. It is a pity! To be sincere with you, you are on a borrowed mercy; it is Christ who always pleads with God on your behalf and the earlier the better you repent (if there are proofs you have no fruit) before the judgement Day of our Lord. His steadfast love never cease, you are still alive because the LORD's faithful love never ends. Every morning He shows it in new ways! Why can’t you reciprocate His love by turning the grace of God on your life as fertilizer to improve your harvest before He comes asking for your fruits? Tomorrow may be too late. Remember, the vinedresser only pleaded for just one more year, what happened after that year, no one knows but before this verse, Jesus warns in that same Luke 13:1-5 (Please read). Do not be a useless tree; be useful to God and your generation. You will not experience the wrath of God (Amen!)
Word Affirmation: “For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." - Isaiah 55:12 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
“ No one knows what happened to that same tree after a year, so check your tree. Are you useful or useless in God’s vineyard? "
