SET ASIDE FOR PROPER USE
The water-pots at the wedding in Cana of Galilee was not set aside to produce wine, the six water-pots of stone were intended for the legal purifications and traditions of Jews. It is their tradition to wash before eating, for which reason here were six large water-pots provided. Since there has been no occasion, these water-pots of stone had been there without use. As water-pots were station many years before this occasion, people and children alike may have asked, what is the purpose of these containers? And the answer may be, it is just for ceremonial washing as commanded by Moses, nothing more. No man can ever imagine that such will one day draw out wine. To the celebrants, there are water-pots for our occasion enough for ceremonial washing, but to Christ and Heaven, there are wine-pots good enough to bear heavenly wine and fit for master’s use. These water-pots became miracle pots, significant for Jesus and in marriages today.
For years, you too might be having a feeling of abandonment, misuse or abuse, you might not even been able to explain what is happening to you. You realise you have more capacities but the results on ground are not equal to what you carry. You have prayed and it seems God is not answering. People might have described you, giving you a name that you do not bear. Wait, a day is coming when you will know the real purpose that you are created. Eyes have not seen and known the real reason why you are created. They might think you are only good for servant position or an object to be used and abandoned like the water-pots, but if you can obey whatever the Lord is telling you to the fullest, you will not only be filled up, you will bear the best wine fit for proper use
Do you feel tired or empty that you don’t even know what to do? You might have been used and not in need of as the water-pots were empty as at the time, people came, draw water from it, wash and ready for the occasion, But these water-pots must still produce something better, it must draw out wine, something better and costlier than water. Never feel broken, rejected or dejected, the purpose by which you are created will be known soon. When Christ came, He put them quite different from what they were intended for; to be the receptacles of the miraculous wine. Beloved, to be properly use, you need Jesus in your life.
Therefore, to be properly used also: 1) positions yourself, stay where God station you, be in your assignment and be faithful. It is not only the water-pots that Jesus could make use of, He could also ask for empty bottles. 2) Be yourself, stay true to your real person, and let nothing change you. 3) Be ready to receive as well prepare to give. Remember, the initial water draw out from these water-pots were only suitable for washing of feet and hands, but now it received new water, new order and from it, a better thing, fit for use were drawn out from it.
