Circumcision of the Heart

Circumcision of the Heart
In Colossians 2:11, Paul writes, “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.” This verse shifts our understanding of true spiritual change from something external to something internal. In the Old Testament, circumcision was a physical sign of covenant. But in the New Testament, it points to a deeper spiritual reality: God is more concerned about your heart than your outward appearance. The "circumcision made without hands" speaks of a work only Christ can do, cutting away the sinful nature and bringing us into new life.
The circumcision of the heart means a transformation of who you are on the inside. It is not just a behaviour change; it is a nature change. When you come to Christ, your old self, the part of you driven by sin, rebellion, and self-will, is removed, and you are given a new heart. This is not something you could do through effort or tradition, it is a supernatural act of God. Your desires begin to shift. You now hunger for righteousness, truth, and holiness. Though the temptation still exists, your spiritual identity has changed. You are no longer a slave to sin, you have been marked by Christ from the inside out.
This heart change is what sets you apart as a true child of God. It’s not your church attendance, your background, or even your knowledge of Scripture, it’s the transformation that Christ has done within you. This is why Paul insists that outward signs alone mean nothing if the heart is not changed. Live from your new heart. When you’re tempted, remind yourself: “That’s not who I am anymore.” When guilt tries to return, say, “That part of me was cut away.” Let this truth give you confidence, not to boast in yourself, but to rejoice in what Christ has done. You are marked, cleansed, and made new.
Word Affirmation: (Deuteronomy 30:6, KJV) "And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live." (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
Personalise: My heart is changed by God. I live from a place of inner transformation and divine love.
“True holiness begins when God cuts away the old self and makes the heart new.”
