CAN WE BE BARREN AND TEARLESS? (2)

God answered Rachael’s prayer. She had prayed for quite some time before the prayer was answered, but at long last Joseph was born (Genesis 30:22-24). Later on, she gave birth to Benjamin, but she died in childbirth when Benjamin was born (Genesis 35:18). Rachael knew it would take pain to bring forth children. She was ready for that pain. She was ready for the long, slow months it would take. She was ready for whatever was necessary. She said, “Give me children, or else I die.”

What if Rachel had stopped praying? What if she had not really been concerned? What if she had accepted her barrenness without complaint? Can you imagine the world being robbed of a Joseph? Joseph was responsible for the salvation of the entire Israelite nation. What if the world had been robbed of Benjamin? Have you ever realized that Paul came into the world through Benjamin? He was of the tribe of Benjamin (Philippians 3:5). Had Rachel been content with her barrenness, the world would have been robbed of an apostle Paul.

The attitude of concern should make us cry, “Give us souls, or else we die.” Are we really concerned about winning souls to Christ? How much time are we spending thinking about souls? We have done a lot of organizing, but we need to do a lot more agonizing. It is not enough for heads to be filled; hearts must be fired. Eyes are dry because hearts are dry. We have not lost any sleep over lost souls. We have not shed many tears over a lost world. How many times have we foregone pleasures or luxuries in order to win souls?

Word Affirmation: “ And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb." - Genesis 30:22 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“ The attitude of concern should make us cry, “Give us souls, or else we die.” "
