Seek the Things Above

Seek the Things Above
Colossians 3:1-2 challenges us with this call: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” This is more than just advice, it’s a command for all who have received new life in Christ. If you’ve been raised with Him, your desires and priorities must reflect heaven’s values. The Christian life is not a self-help project but a resurrection reality. You are no longer who you used to be, so you can no longer live as you used to live.
To seek the things above means to continually aim your thoughts, goals, and affections toward eternal purposes. It’s easy to be caught in the worries of earth, money, popularity, possessions, or even pain. But heaven’s values, truth, righteousness, grace, love, must become your daily pursuit. This doesn’t mean ignoring earthly responsibilities, but it does mean placing God’s agenda above your own. Where Christ is seated at the right hand of God is where your perspective should come from, one of victory, authority, and clarity. When you think with heaven’s mind, you live with heaven’s strength.
Setting your affection above changes your direction on earth. It brings focus to your decisions, joy in your sacrifices, and hope in your waiting. The world teaches you to build your life around what can be seen; God teaches you to build it on what is eternal. Let heaven shape your goals. Let Christ’s presence influence your desires. Make time daily to realign your heart with the things above. You are not just living for this world, you are living for a Kingdom that cannot be shaken. Look up, live up, and walk with your eyes fixed on the One who sits above all.
