Rooted and Built Up

Rooted and Built Up

The Christian journey doesn’t end at accepting Christ, it truly begins there. In Colossians 2:6 - 7, Paul urges believers, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith.” These words reveal the picture of a healthy, growing believer. First, we are to be rooted, like a tree planted deeply in good soil. Our roots must go deep in Christ, drawing strength, nourishment, and stability from Him. If your roots are shallow, you’ll be tossed by winds of hardship or false teaching. But if they are deep in Jesus, you’ll remain steady and fruitful no matter what comes your way.

Next, Paul says we are to be built up in Him. This shifts the image from agriculture to construction. It means our lives should be rising upward like a well-structured house built on a solid foundation. Each day, as we learn and apply God's Word, as we pray, worship, and walk in obedience, we are adding bricks to that spiritual house. Christ is the foundation, and we are to build with care. Growth isn’t automatic, it takes intentional steps. You don’t become spiritually strong overnight, but daily discipline in Christ shapes you into a strong, unshakable person of faith.

Finally, Paul calls us to be established in the faith, not wobbly or unsure, but firm. We are to overflow with thanksgiving because we know who we believe and why we believe. The more rooted and built up we are in Christ, the more unmovable we become. When doubts arise, when pressures come, we don’t collapse, we stand. Why? Because we are planted in Him, built on Him, and growing through Him. Let your life be shaped by Christ, not the culture. Walk with confidence, grow with discipline, and overflow with gratitude. You are not just surviving, you are thriving, because your life is rooted and rising in Jesus.
