OPEN OUR EYES THAT WE MAY SEE

Elisha was one of God’s great prophets. He had a close personal relationship with God. During the time of Elisha, Benhadad, the king of Syria, an inveterate enemy of the nation of Israel, attacked the country of Israel on several occasions. Each time that Benhadad and his troops were getting ready to launch an attack against Israel, the king of Israel would somehow get word of it and would take his men into a safe fortress. This happened so many times that Benhadad came to the conclusion that there had to be a traitor in his camp. So, he summoned his officers and captains together and said, “I demand to know who of you is informing the king of Israel of our attack plans? He always knows. Some of you are bound to be telling him.” In our text, one of Benhadad’s officers replied to him, “Nay, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bed chamber” (2 Kings 6:12). When Benhadad the Syrian king heard this, he realized the real enemy whom he must conquer first was not the king of Israel but the prophet Elisha.

This event is a striking demonstration of the presence, the reality, and the power of spiritual forces. We have no need today to be taught the reality and power of material, physical forces. Everyday that we read the newspapers and magazines and watch the television, these material forces that are so pre-dominant in our world are praised and exploited. But the message that we Christians believe with all of our hearts is that the material, physical, tangible forces are not the only powers in this world. There is a power that can be grasped only by the heart of faith. It is that power that Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians 4:18, where he says, “We look not at the things which are seen [the material and the physical powers], but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” The real forces in our world today are the invisible forces. The real powers at work in our world today are the spiritual and moral powers. Our great need as a nation and as a church is to have our eyes opened to the presence and power of the great spiritual resources which are ours through God and His Son Jesus Christ.

We need to live and dwells in the presence of God even when we are walking or working, in His presence, there is power, revelation and everything you need. May we have such access like that of Elisha who stood in a far country apart from Syria and could tell what was happening in the king’s palace. The presence of God can enable us to live in God’s revelation to know what is happening anywhere in the world related to our lives, families, businesses and concerns. It is not enough to bear Christian name, it is much more important as well to bear power of Christ. Ask God to show you His power and cause you to live in His revelation. Christ did live in God’s revelation and many more in the Bible.

Word Affirmation: “ And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." – 2 Kings 6:16 (Don't just say it, mean it!)

“ It is not enough to bear Christian name, it is much more important as well to bear power of Christ. "
