Christ in the Christian Home

Christ in the Christian Home
In Colossians 3:18-21, Paul addresses the Christian household with simple yet profound instructions: “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands… Husbands, love your wives… Children, obey your parents… Fathers, provoke not your children to anger…” These verses are often misunderstood, but at the heart of them lies a divine order meant to bring peace, love, and honour to family life. Christ is not just for Sunday worship, He wants to dwell in your home. When Christ is central, the home becomes more than a place to live, it becomes a place where heaven touches earth through love, service, and respect.
Wives are called to yield willingly, not out of inferiority, but as a reflection of trust in God’s design. Husbands are called to love sacrificially, just as Christ loved the Church, this is a leadership of service, not dominance. Children are to honour and obey, while fathers are cautioned not to crush their spirits with harshness. Every instruction is relational and rooted in mutual love. These principles don’t promote control, they promote unity. When each family member embraces their role with grace and humility, Christ is seen and felt in the way they speak, act, and forgive.
Having Christ in the home doesn’t mean perfection, it means presence. Disagreements may happen, but they are handled in love. Forgiveness flows more quickly. Words are chosen more carefully. Time is shared more intentionally. The Christian home becomes a training ground for grace and a witness to the world. Whether you’re a parent, spouse, child, or sibling, your part matters. Invite Jesus into your routines, your meals, your conversations, and even your conflicts. Let your home echo with His peace and reflect His glory. In doing so, you build not just a house, but a Christ-filled legacy.
Word Affirmation: (Psalm 127:1, KJV) "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." (KJV) (Don't just say it, mean it!)
Personalise: Christ dwells in my home. We live in love, honour one another, and grow in His peace every day.
“A Christ-centred home is not built on perfection, but on daily choices to love, serve, and forgive like Jesus.”
