NOT MY WILL
At the heart of every sin is selfishness. This was true regarding the first sin: Eve saw that the forbidden fruit was good for food for her body, was pleasant to her eyes, and was desirable to make her wise. This was true when the Jews crucified Jesus: unwilling to give up their traditions and preconceived ideas, they rejected Him. “The will of man collided with the will of God and formed a cross.” Each of us has to deal with the problem of selfishness. What can we do about our self=centeredness? The answer is to develop an attitude expressed in four words found twice in the ministry of Jesus. Jesus based His life on these four words, and so should we: “Thy will be done.”
The will of God was preeminent in Jesus’ life and thinking. He told His disciples, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me” (John 4:34, 6:38, 8:29). It has been said that Jesus constantly thought of God’s will, constantly sought God’s will, and constantly taught God’s will: He thought of God’s will before He would take a step. He sought God’s will through prayer and meditation. He taught God’s will in His personal ministry. Why was Jesus so concerned about doing the will of God because it was right, it was best for Him and others, and because it was the only way to be truly happy. With Jesus, God’s will was above all else.
The present project, work, job or business you are involved in, can it be said to be the will of God? The city or town you are living, is it by the leading of God the Almighty? Or are you just doing your own will? David said, I desire to do thy will. O Lord; do you share in the same desire of King David to do God’s will. For the fact that you have beautiful plan or you have great results in life does not mean you are in the will of God. A lot of us indulge in our wills thinking its God’s because it appealing. No! The first evidence of doing God’s will is humility. God’s will humble at the first. It does not make sense at the initial stage. It also goes contrary to people’s opinions about what’s the right thing to do. Do you want to live long in life, just find the will of God? Find what God want you to do for Him genuinely and live for it, God will keep you in His will.
God’s will attract persecution, God might want you to marry a particular person, but your parents might have contrary opinion if they are not in Christ or do not share the same faith with you. If you go against the will of your parents for that of God, you might be in for a bigger trouble. Let these words be yours, “Thy Will be done”! In everything you do, when you pray for success and breakthrough, add these words: “yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39). Remember, God’s will must be done here on earth as it is written in Heaven. Are you in line with His will?
Word Affirmation: “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies." - Psalm 18:3 (Don't just say it, mean it!)
“The first evidence of doing God’s will is humility. God’s will humble at the first."
